Changes to CSCOPE
May 20, 2013
The Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative announced it would no longer make sample lessons a part of the CSCOPE curriculum system. Lubbock ISD has not required teachers to use these lessons; they are merely a resource available for use at the teacher’s discretion. CSCOPE will continue to be used in Lubbock ISD as the delivery system for the state-mandated curriculum.
LISD Retirement Banquet Scheduled

The LISD Retirement Banquet will be Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jay Gordon Room of Central Office. The Human Resources Department generates a list of retirees from those employees who have turned in their retirement paperwork after the 2012 Retirement Banquet. Employees who plan to retire and would like to attend the retirement banquet should contact Aretha Metcalf by calling 766-1138 or by email.

Global Education Summer Camp Announced

The K12 Global Education Outreach Program at the International Cultural Center is hosting a summer camp for students entering grades 4 - 6 which is designed to foster cultural understanding. The camp will be June 3rd-5th at the Texas Tech International Cultural Center from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the cost is $125. For more information, click here.

LISD Classes Delayed Two Hours - Feb. 26
February 25, 2013
Lubbock ISD will delay classes by two-hours on Tuesday, February 26. Parents should plan on a two-hour delay to the start of school on Tuesday. Buses will run two-hours later than normal as well. With slow driving conditions, parents should allow for additional travel time and dress children appropriately for the extremely low temperatures.  If additional changes are necessary, parents will be called by 6:30 a.m.

Every employee eligible for health benefits must enroll by 5:00 P.M. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18TH in order to have insurance with LISD for 2013. Employees will choose between silver, bronze or Hospital Income Plan (HIP). All employees who are on a health insurance plan OUTSIDE of LISD are eligible for a FREE $25,000 life insurance policy which includes a hospital stay benefit. Traffic Safety Around Schools

Parents are reminded never to allow children to exit a vehicle in a moving lane of traffic. Always pull to the curb and have children exit the vehicle adjacent to the sidewalk. Please remind your child to use crosswalks. In addition, school buses are required to extend their stop arms while they are actively loading and unloading children. Therefore, traffic MUST stop when buses have their lights flashing and stop arm extended. Parents are asked to be patient during these extended stops and avoiding driving in bus loading areas as much as possible. The safety of our students is everyone’s responsibility.

Lubbock ISD will delay classes by two hours on Tuesday, December 6, due to icy road conditions. All bus routes will run two hours later than normally scheduled; however, expect some delays due to road conditions. Parents should dress children warmly, allow extra travel time and drive slowly. All staff members should report to work as close to your regular start time as safely possible.

SchoolFusion, our Web site content management system, has had technical difficulties over the past several weeks. These problems are not limited to Lubbock ISD’s sites, but span SchoolFusion’s entire customer base. Progress is being made, but issues still exist that may cause users to experience slowness, error messages or missing graphics. SchoolFusion is aware of these issues. Classes to begin on time, Friday, February 4

As the result of moderating temperatures and improving road conditions, all LISD classes and programs will begin on time tomorrow, Friday, February 4.  Buses will also return to their regular schedules. 
Proposed 2011-12 Academic Calendars
January 24, 2011
Based on input from the last survey, four new draft calendars for the 2011-2012 school year are now posted. Please note that all of the drafts end the first semester before the Christmas holiday, as 81% of you requested on the last survey. The difference between calendars 1 and 2 is the placement of the Christmas holiday. The difference between calendars A and B is the early release time on the last two days of each semester. Please provide feedback by February 4th. See the draft calendars here.

Lubbock ISD released preliminary scores for students on the 2009-10 state Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test today. The district showed growth in 85% of the 135 areas measured and double-digit gains in several areas over the preliminary scores from 2008-09.  <more information>

Classes delayed due to weather

Classes in Lubbock ISD will begin two hours later than normal today.  Buses will also run two hours later.  All Lubbock ISD personnel should report as soon as safely possible.  Parents are encouraged to allow for extra travel time due to poor road conditions.

                   BOOK FAIR/READING NIGHT 
The first week of November, Nov. 1-5th,  the Bean Library will host the Scholastic Book Fair!
PreK, K, 1st, and 2nd graders have paper banks to begin saving money.
The theme of the Book Fair is "Reading Saves the Day."
Several events are planned:
Wed. Nov. 3rd is "Read my Shirt" Day!  Best shirt with words from each homeroom will win a paperback book!
Thursday Nov. 4th is "Backwards" Day!  Best dressed student with backward clothes from each homeroom will win a paperback book!
"Also on Thursday Nov. 4, 2010 from 5:15- 6:30 after school we will have a Family Reading Night. Join us for an evening of fun filled games and ideas that will help to enhance you child's reading. The Book Fair will be open!
Friday, Nov. 5th is  "Dress like a Superhero" Day!  Best costume of superhero or community hero from each homeroom will win a paperback book!
